Double Click Test — Check Your Mouse & Measure Speed
The double click test serves two purposes: it checks if your mouse is accidentally registering double-clicks when you only click once, and it measures your overall click speed (CPS). This is one of the most commonly searched tests in the clicking community because the "double-click bug" affects millions of gaming mice including popular models from Razer, Logitech, and SteelSeries.
What is the Double Click Bug?
The double-click bug occurs when a mouse switch's mechanical contacts bounce after a single press, registering as two clicks. This is called switch debounce failure. It is extremely common in mice after 6–18 months of heavy use. Symptoms include:
- Files opening instead of selecting when you single-click in Windows Explorer.
- Accidental item drops in games like Minecraft when placing blocks.
- Unintended double-firing in competitive shooters.
How to Fix Double Clicking Mouse
- Increase Debounce Time: In your mouse software (Razer Synapse, Logitech G Hub, etc.), find the debounce or click latency setting and increase it to 10–20ms.
- Clean the Switch: Open the mouse and spray contact cleaner (like DeoxIT D5) into the switch. This often resolves the bouncing caused by oxidized contacts.
- Replace the Switch: Kailh GM 8.0 or Omron D2FC-F-7N(10M) switches can be soldered in as replacements for around $1–3 each.
- Use Windows Fix: Open Control Panel → Mouse → adjust the double-click speed slider to slower.
